The Sock Foundry gets its name comes from my great grandfather, who worked in a knitting mill, making socks. He and his friends would joke about working “at the foundry”, and thus The Sock Foundry was born.

I learned to knit as a child, when my Mom helped me knit a pair of green and gold Packers slippers for my Dad one Christmas. I came back to knitting after college, in an effort to make sweaters that would cover my tall frame and extra-long arms. Two winters ago I decided I needed to make a granny square afghan with some scrap yarn, and so crochet was added to my skill set as well. Most recently, I’ve taken up sock knitting, which brought me back around to the “sock foundry” idea, and here we are!

I’m curating a shop of tools and supplies for you, will be keeping track of my knitting projects and sharing tips and what I’ve learned on the blog, and I hope you’ll stay in touch by joining our Foundry Updates Newsletter email list!
